Black Queens forward Stella Nyamekye says the team is mentally locked in ahead of their third-place playoff clash with South Africa at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana’s hopes of a historic first WAFCON title were dashed after a 4-2 penalty shootout loss to hosts Morocco in the semi-finals. T
he match ended 1-1 after extra time, with Nyamekye scoring Ghana’s only goal.
Despite the heartbreak, the young forward believes the team is in the right frame of mind to fight for bronze.
“We have prepared very well for this game,” she said.
“Per the training we have had, we are mentally prepared for this game.”
Ghana will face defending champions South Africa on Friday, July 25, at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.
It’s a rematch of the group-stage encounter, where the Queens fell 2-0 to Banyana Banyana.
