Black Queens coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren believes Ghana’s upcoming friendly against Nigeria will be a crucial test as they finalize preparations for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The match, scheduled for June 29, will be Ghana’s third and final preparatory game before the tournament begins on July 5 in Morocco.
Bjorkegren welcomes the challenge posed by Nigeria’s Super Falcons, saying, “With full respect of Malawi and Benin that we have played against, Nigeria is one step up, one of the best teams in Africa; good players in almost every position so it’s going to be a very tough game but that’s also what we need now.”
The Black Queens have been in good form, recording wins over Malawi (3-1) and Benin (4-2) in their previous friendlies.
Bjorkegren rotated his squad in these matches to give several players minutes ahead of the final selection.
Sunday’s encounter will be vital in assessing the team’s readiness and cohesion before they face South Africa on July 7 in their AFCON Group C opener.
Ghana is grouped with South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania in Group C for the tournament.
