Ghana’s Black Queens have dropped one place to 67th in the latest FIFA women’s world rankings, despite securing bronze at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The latest rankings, released on Thursday, show a marginal slip from their previous 66th position.
However, on the African chart, the Queens held firm in 6th place, maintaining their standing from the previous update.
The drop follows their third-place finish at WAFCON in Morocco, Ghana’s best continental result since 2006.
Under head coach Kim Björkegren, the team beat South Africa in the third-place playoff after falling to Morocco in the semifinals and losing to Banyana Banyana in the group stage.
Despite outperforming higher-ranked teams like Zambia and tournament hosts Morocco, the Queens’ overall FIFA ranking still saw a decline, raising questions about how the points system weighs regional performance.
Nigeria, who clinched a record-extending 10th WAFCON title, remain the highest-ranked African side.
