President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has lauded the contributions of the Black Queens to Ghana’s football history, calling on all Ghanaians to continue supporting women’s football as a symbol of national unity and pride.
Speaking during a special address at the 2nd edition of the Democracy Cup held at Parliament House, Mr. Okraku praised the government and Parliament for their unwavering support for sports, especially football, in fostering peace and national cohesion.
“In peace, our country uses sports or football in bringing unity to our countrymen and women. This August, both the House and government have been very supportive of association football.”
The GFA President expressed delight at the passion shown by Members of Parliament, especially toward the achievements of the Black Queens.
“Mr. Speaker, I was gladly glad when I heard members of the House speak with so much passion about our indefatigable, our special, special female national team, the Black Queens.”
Mr. Okraku emphasized that the recent performances by the national women’s team were the result of systematic and consistent investment by both the football association and government.
“Indeed, what all of us saw was a result of a continuous investment in the female sport—not only by your own football association but also by government. I was very happy that members of Parliament took turns to wish the team well and throw their weight behind the female sport.”
