Ghana head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren is confident the Black Queens can bounce back with a win when they face Mali today in their second Group C fixture at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The Queens are bottom of the group after a 2-0 loss to defending champions South Africa in their opening match at the Stade Municipal de Berkane.
Despite the defeat, Bjorkegren believes his side had the upper hand for large parts of the game.
“[Against South Africa] it wasn’t the result that we wanted, but at the same time, we played against a very good team,” he said.
“We had more shots, we had more shots on goal, we had more corners, we hit the bar twice. They had one VAR penalty and scored, but overall, we did pretty well.”
The Swedish coach says the team has now shifted focus and is aiming for a stronger performance against the Malians.
“We just need to leave that game for now and move on, and make sure we do an even better game against Mali.”
