Black Galaxies head coach Kassim Mingle has clarified why Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has been left out of recent national team call-ups.
Mingle named a 20-man home-based Black Stars squad for Tuesday’s friendly against South Africa, once again without the experienced shot-stopper. The omission raised questions, but the coach insists it is a deliberate development strategy.
According to Mingle, Asare has already earned his place with the Black Stars and does not need further assessment at the Galaxies level.
“There’s no reason to keep calling Benjamin Asare to the Black Galaxies when he already has a spot in the Black Stars and has justified himself at that level,” he told Sporty FM.
The former Nations FC manager stressed that the home-based setup should provide opportunities for emerging goalkeepers in the Ghana Premier League to gain exposure and fight for future national team roles.
“It doesn’t make sense to invite him again just to ‘justify’ himself. Other local goalkeepers deserve the chance to show their quality,” he added.
Mingle’s stance highlights a renewed emphasis on broadening the national team goalkeeping pool and building depth through deliberate talent development.
