Everything is in place for the Black Queens of Ghana as they prepare to take on Egypt in the return leg of their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, October 28.
The Queens hold a commanding 3–0 first-leg advantage from Ismailia, courtesy of goals from Doris Boaduwaa, Mary Amponsah, and Grace Asantewaa. Head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren is, however, keeping his players grounded ahead of the decisive fixture.
“We are happy to be back on the pitch and do final preparations for an important game against Egypt,” Bjorkegren said. “We have put ourselves in a good situation [to qualify] with the 3-0 win, but it’s just like halftime, so we need to close this door now.”
The team returned to training on Monday evening at the Accra Sports Stadium after resolving a standoff over unpaid bonuses from their 2024 WAFCON campaign in Morocco, where they finished with a medal.
Bjorkegren’s side is determined to stay focused and avoid complacency as they aim to seal qualification for next year’s WAFCON in Morocco, which also serves as the qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. in what promises to be a crucial fixture for Ghana’s women’s football ambitions.
