Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren says he turned down several job offers before accepting the role with Ghana’s senior women’s national team.
The Swedish coach, who replaced Nora Häuptle earlier this year, guided the Black Queens to a bronze medal finish at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in his first major tournament.
“I turned down multiple offers to become the Black Queens coach,” he told Sporty FM. “The plan is to build long-term. Looking at our WAFCON performance, I believe we’ll be successful in the future.”
Björkegren is now targeting qualification for the next WAFCON and a return to the FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will be hosted in Brazil.
