Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has acknowledged that Ghana showed signs of rustiness despite their commanding 3-0 win over Egypt in Ismailia on Thursday.
Goals from Doris Boaduwaa, Mary Amponsah, and Grace Asantewaa handed Ghana a strong first-leg lead in the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, but Bjorkegren said his side lacked their usual rhythm due to limited preparation time.
“You can see that we haven’t been together for a while; it doesn’t connect like it did a couple of months ago,” he said. “But I do think that the energy was there. We did many good things. In the end, we performed overall well. We can win a difficult away game 3-0.”
The Swedish coach praised the team’s fighting spirit and said the result leaves Ghana well-placed to seal qualification.
“The result is amazing, so it puts us in a good position, of course, to make sure that we reach the next WAFCON.”
Egypt started brightly but failed to capitalise on early chances, allowing Ghana to grow into the game. Boaduwaa opened the scoring late in the first half from Jennifer Cudjoe’s precise through ball, before Amponsah and Asantewaa struck in the second half to complete a professional display ahead of Tuesday’s return leg in Accra.
