Maltese Premier League side Birkirkara FC have announced the signing of Ghanaian-born forward Asumah Abubakar-Ankrah for the ongoing season.
The 27-year-old joins on a free transfer after leaving Australian club Brisbane Roar, and his arrival is expected to boost the team’s attacking options following the injury of Nigerian striker Franklin Sasere.
In a statement, the club described Abubakar as “a dynamic and experienced centre-forward” whose pace, strength, and intelligent movement will add depth and versatility to the squad.
“Asumah’s ability to hold up play and finish with both feet makes him a valuable addition as we navigate this challenging phase,” Birkirkara said.
The Portuguese-born Ghanaian has previously played in Switzerland for Grasshoppers, FC Luzern, and FC Lugano, as well as in the Netherlands before moving to Australia’s A-League.
Abubakar represented Portugal at youth level, featuring at the UEFA U19 Championship.
Birkirkara expressed confidence that his international experience will make a meaningful impact in their campaign.
