This weekend sees the start of the Clausura phase of the  Peruvian Liga 1 season and Monday features this upcoming clash between Deportivo Binacional and visitors, Universidad San Martin, when the two teams meet at the Estadio Guillermo Briceño Rosamedina with both sides keen to make a positive start to the second term.

Deportivo Binacional finished the Apertura in 6th place but 10 points adrift of the leaders, Melgar, as we head into the second phase of the domestic top flight season with Dep Binancional looking to make it four home wins on the trot.

Although Binacional suffered back to back defeats on the road towards the end of the Apertura term, losing at UTC Cajamarca and Cesar Vallejo respectively.

The hosts did pick up three home wins on the bounce in the form of victories over Sport Huancayo, Alianza Lima and Carlos Stein.

Indeed, having lost just twice in their last 11 home games at their Estadio Guillermo Briceño Rosamedina, Deportivo Binacional look set to make a positive start to the Clausura phase on Monday.

Universidad San Martin finished a lowly third from bottom place at the end of the Apertura standings.

The visitors only recorded four wins in their total of 18 games and their situation wasn’t helped by the fact that they lost seven of their eight matches away from home as well.

Although San Martin have picked up recent wins against Carlos Stein and ADT, both of these rare wins were achieved on home soil at their Estadio Alberto Gallardo.

While the bigger picture shows that the visitors have managed to collect just three victories from their last 16 matches overall.

Results away from home though have been particularly poor where San Martin have been concerned as the visitors have now failed to win any of their last 18 outings on the road and have also been handed no fewer than 15 defeats within this woeful period of results in the process.

San Martin have also failed to score in 10 of these 18 away games too.

Deportivo Binacional are unbeaten in their previous six meetings against Universidad San Martin, winning five of these games, so the hosts look in good shape to extend their dominance over the visitors here.
