Bernard Tekpetey says injuries derailed his ambition to become goal king in Bulgaria –

Ghana striker Bernard Tekpetey has blamed injuries for his inability to achieve his goal of becoming the top scorer in Bulgaria’s top flight.

Tekpetey set a goal of winning the golden boot, but due to injuries, he could only score seven goals, falling nine goals short of teammate Pieros Sotiriou, who took home the award.

“I was in contention for the goal king but injuries affected me. The top scorer scored about 17 goals so I believe I could win it had it not being injuries” he told Angel FM.

Meanwhile, Tekpetey has affirmed he deserved to be in the current Black Stars team considering his performance.

He was not included in the squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and four-nation tournament in Japan in June.

“I should have been in this current Black Stars team because of my performance but God’s time is the best”

Tekpetey ended the season with 10 goals and 12 assists in all competitions and a winners medal as Ludogorets won the league.
