Invited by Olympique Lyonnais to come and present their Golden Ball at Groupama Stadium, at half-time of the match OL 1-1 OGC Nice, this Friday, Karim Benzema spoke about his state of form 10 days before the start of the 2022 World Cup for France (against Australia, November 22).

Moved by the welcome given to him by the Lyon public, the Real Madrid striker confided his impressions at the microphone of Prime Video : “It’s something magnificent. I would first like to say thank you to Real Madrid for allowing me to realize this dream and to my favorite club, OL, too. It’s a way of thanking them for sharing this with them. Since I was little, they have been there, I have climbed the ladder since I was little in this club. It’s my city, it’s the club that allowed me to sign for Real Madrid too. Coming here, seeing all these supporters waiting for me, makes me proud of my work. And I’m sure they’re proud too”.

Karim Benzema left OL in 2009, for Real Madrid, against 35 million euros.

“I will be 100%”

Regarding the 2022 World Cup, the French striker wanted to be reassuring, while Karim Benzema has only played one game (26 minutes against Celtic, November 2) since October 19 (the Frenchman was then a starter against Elche) with Real Madrid: “The World Cup would be one of the best birthday gifts (the final is played the day before Karim Benzema’s birthday, editor’s note). I am in a hurry to start this World Cup, because we have a lot of ambitions. It will be difficult but we will take match after match. Each game will be a final. We have a good group. I will be 100%. I had a few small genes, but nothing serious so there is still time. By November 22, I will be mentally and physically fit.”

This season, the Ballon d’Or 2022 has only played 12 games with the Spanish team (for 6 goals and 1 assist).
