Serie A’s matchday 4 will be a midweek set of fixtures as the Italian top flight goes into a race ahead of November and December’s FIFA World Cup. After three games, seven Serie A teams are level on seven points at the top of the table. Which side will take a major step this midweek toward the Scudetto?

Inter Milano – Cremonese

Inter Milan are coming off of a first loss of the season, falling to Lazio in Rome, 3-1. Lazio are Inter’s bogey team and playing at the Stadio Olimpico is a slippery banana skin for the Nerazzurri.

Newly-promoted Cremonese are up next for Inter at San Siro. There are no trends between these teams to speak of. Inter have taken six points from nine this season with six goals for and four against – three of those goals were scored by Lazio.

Cremonese have started the season with a 100% record, losing all three games on the fixture list. The visitors have conceded six goals and scored three times.

  • In all of their 7 most recent home matches of Serie A, there have been no losses for Inter Milano.
  • Cremonese have been defeated in their last 3 matches in Serie A.
  • Inter Milano have not been beaten in 29 of their 33 most recent matches in Serie A.
  • In their last 5 home Serie A matches, Inter Milano have won by 2 or more goals.
  • Prediction: Inter Milano @ 1.14

AS Roma – Monza

Roma are coming off of their first dropped points of the season in a 1-1 come from behind draw with Juventus. Jose Mourinho’s team will now host newly-promoted Monza in a very winnable game.

Monza are bottom of the Serie A table. Like fellow newly-promoted club Cremonese, Monza have not won a game this season, scoring two goals and conceding eight times.

There are no trends between these sides heading into the game. Goals have been a problem for Roma as they have scored just three times in three games. The defence has allowed a mere one goal.

  • AS Roma are undefeated in their last 9 home league games.
  • Monza have lost their last 3 Serie A matches in a row.
  • AS Roma are unbeaten in 18 of their last 20 Serie A games.
  • On average, Monza have been scoring 0.67 goals in their most recent matches in Serie A.
  • Prediction: AS Roma @ 1.22

Empoli FC – Hellas Verona

Empoli have just shaded their head-to-head record with Hellas Verona over the course of the last six matches. The Azzurri have a 3W-1D-2L record versus Hellas in all competitions in those six meetings.

Empoli have started the new campaign just as poorly as they finished last season. The Azzurri have two points from nine on offer, scoring a mere one goal and conceding twice.

Hellas Verona are coming off of a 1-0 home loss to Atalanta in Serie A. One point has come from the last nine in the league for Verona. It is safe to say that this is a six-point match.

  • Empoli FC have won only 2 of their last 20 Serie A matches.
  • Hellas Verona haven’t lost in 7 of their last 8 away matches in Serie A.
  • Empoli FC haven’t lost in 5 of their last 6 home matches in Serie A.
  • Hellas Verona have won only 1 of their last 8 Serie A matches.
  • Prediction: Under 2.5 goals @ 2.00

SSC Napoli – US Lecce

Napoli are top of Serie A thanks to goal difference. Luciano Spalletti’s team started last season well and were in the title race until Christmas only to fall away. Now, Napoli have seven points from nine and go into matchday No. 4 versus newly-promoted Lecce.

Lecce have a record of 2W-0D-4L against Napoli in the teams’ last six head-to-head meetings. These sides have not played since the 2019-20 Serie A season.

The Giallorossi have tallied a mere one point from nine on offer compared to Napoli’s seven. Napoli are coming off of a nil-nil draw versus Fiorentina on Sunday night. Although Spalletti would have wanted a win, a draw against one of Serie A’s top-seven teams was a good result.

  • SSC Napoli haven’t lost any of their last 7 matches in Serie A.
  • US Lecce are winless in their last 4 encounters in Serie A.
  • SSC Napoli are unbeaten in 19 of their 22 most recent matches (Serie A).
  • SSC Napoli have won by 3 or more goals in their last 3 home league games.
  • Prediction: SSC Napoli @ 1.25
