Bayern Munich and Liverpool reach ‘total agreement’ for Sadio Mane transfer

Bayern Munich and Liverpool have finally reached an agreement for the transfer of Reds forward Sadio Mane, in a move that could cause a domino effect in the transfer market.

Mane announced following the Champions League final that he would be leaving Liverpool this summer, with one year left on his current contract at Anfield, and a move to Bayern has been on the cards for much of the three weeks since.

However, it seemed as though a deal may fall through following a pair of lowball offers made by the German club, including an offer that included add-ons only activated if Mane were to win three back-to-back Ballon D’ors, something that seemed near-on impossible despite his undoubted quality.

Despite this, an agreement appears to have been reached close to the 42.5m euros demanded by the Anfield side, with Mane having already agreed personal terms with the Bavarian giants.

As per Paul Joyce, Liverpool have agreed on a deal worth £27.5m, with a further £7.6m coming in the form of add-ons, both team and individual.

Lewandowski free to leave?

The arrival of Mane frees Robert Lewandowski to leave Bayern, after repeated claims that he wished to do just that, and with Barcelona keen on signing the 33-year-old.

This, however, may require a sale first, and it could see Frenkie de Jong’s move to Manchester United finally handed some impetus after weeks of speculation as to whether the Dutchman would arrive at Old Trafford.

In an ironic twist of events, then, Liverpool could be handing Manchester United a major transfer boost.
