Heart of Lions head coach Bashir Hayford did not hide his frustration after his side fell to a 2–1 defeat against Nations FC in the Ghana Premier League on Saturday.
In the Matchday 13 clash at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, Lions scored first but failed to protect their advantage as the hosts mounted a comeback to claim all three points.
After the game, Hayford turned his anger towards his senior players, accusing them of complacency and lack of responsibility at a crucial moment in the season.
“I think because of the winning we are winning, my top players they call themselves senior players I think they are joking. I should put them on their feet. The complacency is too much, and that’s why we lost. Honestly, my so-called experienced players have let me down,” he said.
The veteran coach also expressed disappointment at his team’s inability to capitalise when opportunities arise.
“I’m very disappointed. We have had the opportunity to jump to the top five times, and anytime we get the opportunity, we mess up. We have to go back to the drawing board.”
Following the setback, Heart of Lions will look to regroup when they face Bibiani Gold Stars in their Matchday 14 fixture next weekend.
