Barcelona’s Marc Casado weighs Saudi Pro League offers after being warned over limited role

Marc Casado is facing a major decision over his Barcelona future after being told he will have only a secondary role if he remains at the club, while attractive offers from Saudi Pro League clubs add to the pressure on the 22-year-old midfielder.

Barcelona have made it clear that they will not force Casado to leave because he still has a valid contract. However, according to Spanish newspaper AS, the club has also been direct about his prospects under manager Hansi Flick, warning him that competition for places in midfield is so intense that regular playing time will be difficult to secure this season.

Casado’s involvement was already limited last season. He played approximately 1,000 minutes fewer than he had during his first campaign under Flick, despite appearing in roughly the same number of matches, 34 in total.

Flick has reportedly explained the situation to Casado in straightforward terms. Pedri, Gavi, Marc Bernal, Frenkie de Jong and Eric Garcia are all ahead of him in the midfield pecking order. Garcia’s versatility also makes him particularly well suited to Flick’s tactical approach.

Should Casado decide to stay, he understands that he would need to produce an exceptional effort to rebuild his position within the squad and force his way into contention ahead of several established first-team players. The final decision, however, remains his.

Barcelona unwilling to sell cheaply

Barcelona accept that Casado needs consistent football if he is to continue developing his talent. The club also believes his technical ability means he could find a strong team willing to offer him the opportunities he is seeking.

Despite that, Barcelona have no interest in letting him go for a low fee. They regard him as a valuable asset and a promising young player who is still at the beginning of his career. Casado has represented Spain at senior international level and has regularly impressed whenever he has played for Barcelona.

Before 30 June, Barcelona received several approaches for the midfielder. The club had been close to accepting an offer worth only 10 million euros, but ultimately chose not to rush into a sale that would not reflect Casado’s perceived value.

Instead, Barcelona decided to wait in the hope of securing a more profitable transfer agreement. The club’s stance reflects its view that Casado remains an important long-term asset, even if his immediate prospects at Barcelona appear restricted.

Saudi interest adds to uncertainty

Casado has received financially attractive offers from clubs in the Saudi Pro League. The young Spaniard is nevertheless deeply hesitant about moving to a competition considered below Europe’s major leagues, while people close to him remain divided over whether the transfer would be the right step.

Some of his associates believe a move to Saudi Arabia would provide an exceptional financial opportunity that may not come again. Others fear that leaving for the Saudi Pro League at such an early stage of his career could damage his technical development and reduce his future chances of representing Spain.

Casado’s next move remains unresolved. He is expected to decide in the coming days or weeks, with growing pressure to settle the issue before the summer transfer window closes.

Barcelona also need clarity on his intentions so they can plan the remainder of the season more effectively. For now, Casado must choose between staying at Camp Nou with a clearly limited role, or leaving in search of the regular football he believes he needs to progress.
