Baba Yara Stadium not ready for GHALCA Top 4 – NSA boss

Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, says the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi is not in a suitable state to host the upcoming 2025 GHALCA Top 4 tournament.

The preseason competition ; featuring Premier League champions Bibiani GoldStars, Heart of Lions, Asante Kotoko, and Hearts of Oak is scheduled for August 20–24. But despite initial confirmation of Kumasi as host city, that may now change.

“At this moment, the stadium is not ready, and we’ve told GHALCA. They are aware,” Ampofo Ankrah said on Sporty FM.

He added that an inspection team will visit Kumasi next week to re-assess the pitch and surrounding facilities before a final decision is made.

The NSA boss blamed the situation on financial constraints.

“The bottom line is money. If we had a million Ghana cedis or a million dollars today, we could get to work,” he explained.

Ampofo Ankrah admitted that while some temporary patchwork had been done, a sustainable fix requires serious funding.

“It’s just a matter of time, but maybe we don’t have the luxury of time,” he concluded.
