Leicester City’s decision to dismiss head coach Marti Cifuentes has placed Ghanaian duo Jordan Ayew and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku at a crossroads in their Championship campaign.
The Spaniard was sacked on January 25 after just six months in charge, with the Foxes struggling in 14th place and drifting six points off the promotion zone.
Inconsistent results, including just one win between September and October, gradually piled pressure on the former Queens Park Rangers boss.
A 2-1 defeat to relegation-threatened Oxford United on January 24 proved decisive and brought his tenure to an abrupt end.
The change means Ayew and Fatawu must now adapt to a new technical direction as Leicester seek to revive their season.
Club chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha explained the decision, saying, “This has been a difficult decision and not one I have taken lightly.
“I would like to thank Marti Cifuentes for the total commitment he has shown during his time at Leicester City. He gave everything to the role and worked tirelessly to help us achieve our targets.
“However, I believe this is the right step at this time to improve performances and results, and to act in the best interests of Leicester City Football Club. Marti leaves with our thanks and our best wishes for the future.”
For now, the Black Stars pair will work under first-team coach Andy King until a substantive manager is appointed.
Fatawu was one of the standout performers under Cifuentes, registering six goals and seven assists in 29 appearances across competitions.
Ayew also played a key role, contributing five goals and three assists as both players look to secure their places under the next manager.
