Attuquayefio backs Rajevac

Rajevac and his local Black Stars returned to Accra on Monday to a chorus of criticism from sections of the local media but Attuquayefio insist suggestions that Ghana’s 2010 World Cup hopes are in danger on the back of the showing in Abidjan is way off the mark.   “Ghanaians should accept that football is growing massively elsewhere so the team deserves a pat on the back for reaching the finals,” Attuquayefio told KickOffGhana.com.   “In football when you beat a side in one game they are bound to improve in the next. I was part of the Ghana squad that beat DR Congo in the group stages of the 1974 Nations Cup final 2-1 and then lost the final 1-0 against the same side so these things happen in football.”   Attuquayefio feels however that the coach’s communication with his players must improve and insist his insistence that he will sit in the VIP stands instead of on the substitute bench is not good enough.   Also dear to Attuquayefio’s heart with the first game of the second round of the qualifiers approaching is for the coach to ditch his one top striking system and play two men in attack.   But the former Black Stars manager says never has his belief in the ability of the Black Stars to qualify for the World Cup diminished because of the performance of the team in Abidjan.   “Two wins, two draws and one loss is not the worst thing in the world,” he said.   “We have a group of very good individual players and are in a group that we should qualify out of. If we don’t underestimate our opponents, then I think our players are motivated well enough to take Ghana to another World Cup.”
