Atletico Madrid have categorically ruled out selling forward Julian Alvarez to La Liga rivals FC Barcelona, insisting there is “0% Chance” of the Argentina international moving to the Blaugrana side.

The club issued its emphatic response in an official statement on Wednesday, 26 August, as speculation surrounding Alvarez’s future continued to intensify.

Atletico Madrid released the statement after FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta said in a video that his club remained interested in signing the 26-year-old forward.

Laporta’s public comments appear to have angered Atletico Madrid, who responded by making their position on a possible transfer clear. The Spanish club said it had no interest in selling Alvarez to FC Barcelona and firmly ruled out a move to their domestic rivals.

The Atletico Madrid statement was delivered against the backdrop of continued transfer talk involving Alvarez, whose performances have made him the focus of interest from Barcelona. However, the club’s wording left no apparent room for negotiations over a switch to the Catalan side.

Alvarez has scored 20 goals and provided nine assists in 49 appearances across all competitions. Those figures were included as part of the ongoing discussion about the forward, who remains at the centre of the transfer speculation.

The forward’s output has been a significant part of the attention surrounding his situation, but Atletico Madrid’s official response made clear that the club does not intend to sell him to FC Barcelona. The statement directly addressed Laporta’s expression of interest and rejected the prospect of Alvarez joining the Blaugrana.

For now, Atletico Madrid’s position is unequivocal: the club is not interested in allowing the Argentina international to leave for FC Barcelona. Its announcement came as the transfer discussion continued, with Laporta’s comments prompting the club to issue a direct and forceful clarification.

The reported interest from FC Barcelona and the response from Atletico Madrid have placed Alvarez at the centre of the latest La Liga transfer story. While Laporta said his club remained interested in the player, Atletico Madrid have publicly closed the door on a deal.

Alvarez’s record of 20 goals and nine assists in 49 matches in all competitions remains the key statistical detail attached to the speculation. Yet Atletico Madrid’s message focused on the club’s decision rather than the player’s numbers, stressing that there was no intention to sell the forward to FC Barcelona.

The statement therefore represents Atletico Madrid’s official position on a potential transfer to the Blaugrana. With the club having responded directly to Laporta’s video, it has categorically rejected the possibility of Alvarez moving to FC Barcelona.
