Asante Kotoko orchestrated a stunning comeback, clinching the J.A Kufuor Cup with a 2-1 victory over Nsoatreman at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Sunday, February 18, 2024.
The highly anticipated clash began with both teams in matching yellow kits. However, a unique moment unfolded in the 25th minute when the game briefly halted, allowing Kotoko to switch to white jerseys for improved visibility and distinction.
Despite a goalless first half, Abdul Rahman of Nsoatreman broke the deadlock, scoring the opener. In the 57th minute, Asante Kotoko mounted a comeback, with Ugandan striker Steven Mukwala finding the net.
Nsoatreman had an opportunity to reclaim the lead from the penalty spot, but goalkeeper Frederick Asare thwarted Manaf Umar’s spot-kick.
In the 67th minute, Kotoko completed their comeback as Peter Amidu capitalized on a precise pass from Richmond Lamptey to secure the winning goal.
The match, organized by the JAK Foundation, not only showcased thrilling football but also served as a tribute to the enduring legacy of former Ghana President John Agyekum Kufuor, who held office for two terms from 2000 to 2008.
