Abdul Karim Zito has confirmed that Asante Kotoko tried to convince him to remain as head coach.
The Ghana Premier League side announced Zito’s resignation on Monday evening, coming a day after their MTN FA Cup exit.
Zito took over the Porcupine Warriors in April last year and led the team to FA Cup success by the end of the season.
However, a turbulent 2025/26 campaign, including one win in their last five matches prompted Zito to step down from his role.
He admitted that the club was unhappy with his decision but said discussions were handled professionally.
“It became a family issue, and we had to talk it out and find an amicable solution. In the end, we all agreed that I should leave,” he told Asempa FM.
“They did their best to change my mind, but my mind was already made up. I am a legend of the club, and if an issue arises, you need to remain calm and talk things out. I have resigned.
“I have been on the job for barely a year, and I won four trophies. I am very happy about it.”
The Porcupine Warriors will now be led by assistant coaches Prince Osei Yaw and Hamza Obeng for their next league fixture against arch-rivals Hearts of Oak.
