Asante Kotoko SC is set to name Hamza Obeng Mohammed as the club’s new second assistant coach and head coach of their youth side, the Young Porcupines, pending an official announcement.
The 31-year-old emerging tactician has been identified as the ideal candidate to strengthen both the senior team’s technical bench and the club’s youth development pathway, thanks to a growing reputation and an impressive track record in Ghanaian football.
Obeng is widely recognized for his stint as deputy coach to Samuel Boadu at Medeama SC between 2017 and 2021, where the pair built a competitive squad in the Ghana Premier League.
He later joined Boadu at Accra Hearts of Oak, serving as assistant coach during one of the club’s most successful periods in over a decade.
During their time at Hearts, the duo led the Phobians to the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League title, ending a ten-year drought.
They also secured back-to-back MTN FA Cup titles, reinforcing Obeng’s credentials as a sharp and dependable tactician.
Most recently, Obeng played a key role as assistant coach at Vision FC, helping the side earn historic promotion to the Ghana Premier League for the first time. He currently holds a CAF License B coaching certificate.
Obeng’s expected appointment reflects Kotoko’s renewed focus on long-term planning and talent development as they look to bounce back stronger in the upcoming season.
