Karela United FC scored two second half goals to beat Asante Kotoko 2-0 in the Round of 16 of the 2023/24 MTN FA Cup.
The home side who struggled in the first half of the Ghana Premier League, needed the win to redeem their image after a lackluster performance in the League left them in the bottom three of the table at the end of the first round.
After a barren first half, Solomon Aboagye broke the deadlock in the 48th minute before Ibrahim Giyas put the game to bed in the 65th minute to take Abubakari Damba’s side to the next round of the MTN FA Cup.
The win gives Karela United passage into the quarter-finals of this season’s MTN FA Cup, while Asante Kotoko exited the competition despite a brilliant start to this years edition.
Asante Kotoko will now channel their energies into the Ghana Premier League as Karela United aim for their first domestic title.
