Asante Kotoko coach Prosper Ogum praised his players for displaying a strong mentality in their win over Medeama in Tarkwa.
The Porcupine Warriors beat the Mauves and Yellows 2-0 thanks to goals from Andrew Kwadwo Appau and Franck Mbella Etouga.
It was Kotoko’s first victory over Medeama in Tarkwa since 2014, and they are now one win away from their 25th title.
They did it the hard way, playing the entire second half with 10 men after midfielder Mudasiru Salifu was sent off before halftime.
“They showed a strong mental character today, the game was played mentally, if you look at how we kept our shape defensively and offensively it was amazing,” Narteh Ogum said after the game.
“Discipline was part too, we played the entire second half with a man down so if all it was down to discipline and application of knowledge,” he added.
The victory puts Kotoko nine points clear at the top of the table. If Hearts of Oak, the reigning champions and bitter rivals, lose to Karela United on Monday, they will be crowned champions.
