Asante Kotoko are the only club among the 2026-27 Ghana Premier League entrants to satisfy all Ghana Football Association club licensing requirements without being sanctioned, according to Club Licensing Committee chairman Dr Kwame Baah-Nuako.
The GFA has approved 14 of the 18 proposed venues for the new league season, which is scheduled to begin on 5 September. However, Dr Baah-Nuako said Asante Kotoko were the only club to complete the licensing process in full compliance with the regulations.
“Asante Kotoko is the only club that met the club licensing regulations and was approved without sanctions,” he told Asempa FM.
The statement means Asante Kotoko enter the new campaign with their licensing approval secured without any disciplinary conditions or penalties attached to it. The club will continue to play their home matches at Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
The Porcupine Warriors are due to begin their league campaign away from home, with a fixture against newly promoted Debibi United scheduled for the opening round of the 2026-27 Ghana Premier League.
That match will come as the competition gets under way on 5 September. Asante Kotoko’s home venue for the season remains Baba Yara Stadium, which will continue to host their home fixtures in Kumasi.
The licensing process has been completed against the backdrop of the GFA’s approval of 14 proposed match venues for the forthcoming campaign. Dr Baah-Nuako, who chairs the committee responsible for the process, identified Asante Kotoko as the only club to have met the licensing regulations without sanctions before the start of the season.
The club’s full compliance gives them a clear position ahead of the campaign, while their first competitive assignment will be against Debibi United, who have been promoted to the Ghana Premier League.
The 2026-27 season will therefore begin with Asante Kotoko travelling for their opening league fixture before returning to Baba Yara Stadium for their home matches in Kumasi. Their licensing status was confirmed by the GFA Club Licensing Committee ahead of the new season.
The committee’s venue decisions and the licensing assessment have been issued before the league’s scheduled start date of 5 September. With Asante Kotoko approved without sanctions, the Porcupine Warriors are set to begin their campaign with their home ground confirmed and their opening fixture arranged away to Debibi United.
