Asamoah Gyan sets the record straight on Kevin-Prince Boateng’s 2014 World Cup controversy

A recent revelation by former Ghana international, Kevin-Prince Boateng, regarding his expulsion from the 2014 World Cup has sparked reactions from various quarters.

Boateng disclosed that he was ousted from the Black Stars camp during the tournament due to his criticism of team officials and poor treatment.

Now, former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan who was part of the squad during that tumultuous time, has offered his perspective on the situation.

In response to Boateng’s statement, Gyan took to social media to shed light on the events leading to Kevin-Prince Boateng’s exit from the team.

He revealed that the incident took place on the training grounds, during a heated exchange between Boateng and the coach, witnessed by everyone present.

According to him, the coach Kwesi Appiah, felt that Boateng had disrespected him multiple times with his choice of words.

However, the former captain also provided insight into the behind-the-scenes efforts to defend Boateng on previous occasions when similar issues arose.

It appears that there were attempts to mediate and address the tension within the team without resorting to such drastic measures.

Nevertheless, the tipping point came during that particular training session when Coach Kwesi Appiah, known for his calm demeanor, could no longer tolerate the situation and reacted strongly.

Gyan also emphasized that this was the first time he had witnessed Coach Appiah display such anger and respond in such a manner.

“Kevin’s case happened at the training grounds between him and the coach in front of everybody. So that was the coach’s decision cos coach felt Kevin disrespected him several times with his chose of words. One thing Kevin didn’t know is we defended him behind the scenes several times. But on that day , coach couldn’t take it anymore and reacted. That was the first time I saw Kwesi Appiah get angry and reacted. So Kevin’ case was the coach’s call. That’s the truth as the captain of the team” he wrote on Twitter.
