Arsenal’s Fabio Vieira confirms his favoured position on the pitch

Arsenal summer signing Fabio Vieira has, this weekend, provided an insight into his favoured position on the pitch.

Portuguese youth international Vieira, of course, opted to take his talents to the red half of north London last month.

In something of a bolt from the blue, the powers that be at Arsenal swooped to tie up a deal for the now-former Porto standout, in a move understood to have set the Gunners back a sum in the region of €40 million (including bonuses).

Owing to the altogether considerable sum splashed out on his signature, Vieira will of course be expected to play a prominent role at the Emirates, beginning with the fast-approaching 2022/23 campaign.

Just where on the pitch, though, can those of an Arsenal persuasion expect to see the 22-year-old line out?

Well, as alluded to above, an insight into precisely that has today been provided, by none other than Vieira himself.

Speaking in an interview with The Athletic, the Portuguese was drawn on where exactly on the pitch he feels most comfortable.

And Vieira, to begin, admitted that Mikel Arteta has already made clear that he feels as though his latest midfield recruit is capable of featuring in a whole array of positions:

“The manager told me he knows I can play as a midfielder — No 8,  No 10 — or on the wing, left side or right side. They know I am a versatile player.”

Given the choice, though, the 22-year-old has confirmed that he would opt for a spot behind a central striker:

“I prefer No 10. It’s my real position.”
