Arsenal has been advised to pursue Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie as a possible replacement for Thomas Partey. Mikel Arteta’s lack of depth is highlighted as a problem in their title chase.
Mohamed Elneny provides cover, but Arteta will be concerned if Partey sustains another injury given that Pep Guardiola has competition in that holding role from Rodri, Kalvin Phillips, and Ilkay Gundogan at Manchester City.
Although the Spanish manager has been informed of a potential low-cost alternative that would give solid cover for his midfielder, who has previously failed to keep in shape.
“Again he [Kessie] was surplus today at Barcelona [vs Espanyol],” Ex-Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley told ESPN.
“Would he get him on loan? He would be terrific cover. But does he want to go from being cover at Barcelona to cover at Arsenal? I don’t know.”
Thomas Partey has made 13 appearances and scored two goals for Arsenal this season.
