Black Stars coach Chris Hughton is confident Thomas Partey will leave Arsenal and team up with his mates at national level for the Africa Cup of Nations, insisting it is ‘not a debate’
The deputy captain of Ghana has been on the sidelines for weeks but could return fit for the continental tournament which starts on January 13.
However, there has been concerns about Arsenal unwillingness to allow Partey depart for the upcoming tournament as they hope to have a strong squad to win the Premier League title this season.
“We have the Africa Cup of Nations in the month of January. This is when a particular team, a particular country want their players for camp. They don’t have a choice,” Hughton told Talksports.
“What can happen and what has always happened is the relationship between clubs and there’ll be some Associations with a club that maybe allows a particular player to come two days later than the others.”
Partey has been limited to just four appearances for Arsenal this season due to injuries.
Hughton would hope to get him in shape for the AFCON as Ghana hope to end their 41-year drought next year.
