English Premier League

Mikel Arteta looks to have brought the feel-good factor back to the Emirates again, with Arsenal winning five out of their first six Premier League matches this season.

Signing players such as Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, who have proven title-winning league quality, has given the side an extra dimension and it appears the club are finally ready to claim a top four spot for the first time since 2017.

Not only that, but the future looks bright for the club too, with some wonderful Hale End talents that could be ready to challenge for their place in Arteta’s first team squad in the next couple of seasons, with Charles Sagoe Jr one of the brightest young prospects.

Arteta could a new Pires in Sagoe Jr

Since joining from Fulham in 2015 at 11 years of age, Sagoe Jr has progressed through the ranks at Arsenal before signing his first professional contract in July, saying that he “wants to be part” of the project that the Spaniard is growing at the club.

The left winger is capable of causing “problems” to any defence and could well be the the Gunners’ next Robert Pires, who dazzled the Highbury crowd on many occasions with his tricky and creative spark.

Sagoe Jr also seems to share the Frenchman’s knack for scoring goals from a left-wing position, with the youngsters starting off the new season with four goals and one assist in just six matches, made even better in the fact it’s a step up for the 18-year-old.

Pires netted 85 goals for the club throughout his six-season stay, and though it is far too early to suggest Sagoe Jr can have that sort of impact, his seamless progression from the U18s to the Premier League 2 has offered Arteta a glimpse of what he might be capable of.

Will Sagoe Jr get a chance under Arteta at Arsenal

The 40-year-old is finally reaping the benefit of the time granted to him by the Arsenal board, and with excellent infrastructure in place at the club, it offers greater opportunities for youngsters such as Sagoe Jr.

He might well get his chance in the next few seasons, so watch this space as there could be a Pires-like prodigy amongst the Arsenal ranks.
