The Stars captain is one of 30 players in vying for space in Milovan Rajevac’s 23-man squad and the Bologna midfielder is determined to take his chance after two difficult years when his club career went into ruins. When he was previously guaranteed a place in the side, Appiah’s place is by no means guaranteed now even though he insists for him nothing has changed. “I have been telling some of the players we are going to play a justifier. I am going to train well and be a part of the team. I want to be in South Africa and I want to show the coach I am ready and I am fit and that this is a different Stephen Appiah,” he told KickOffGhana.com. “Even when I was playing always I knew I had to work hard to be in the Ghana squad. I didn’t see myself as a regular choice so for me nothing has changed and that is what I want to do. “I am going to love the competition. There were young ones who did brilliant in Angola at the Nations Cup. Now we have to struggle first to be in 23 man squad and then to earn a starting place.”
