Asante Kotoko management says it has not reached a final verdict on the future of head coach Abdul Karim Zito, despite growing pressure from sections of the club’s supporters following a run of inconsistent performances.
The club’s Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, addressed the uncertainty surrounding the technical bench, admitting that while the coach has made efforts, the overall results have not fully met expectations. His comments come at a time when discussions about a possible coaching change continue to dominate conversations among fans and pundits.
“We are yet to make a final decision. While the coach has done his best, we are not fully satisfied and any decision taken should come as no surprise to anyone,” Sarfo Duku stated.
Kotoko’s recent struggles including their elimination from the FA Cup at home to Aduana FC have intensified scrutiny on Zito’s leadership. The Porcupine Warriors have also found it difficult to maintain consistency in the Ghana Premier League, leaving them off the pace in the title race despite the quality within the squad.
Coach Karim Zito himself has remained defiant in the face of criticism, previously expressing confidence that success will eventually come to the club and voicing his desire to be present when that turnaround happens. He has also cited injuries and a demanding fixture list as factors that have affected performances this season.
With over a dozen league matches still to play, Kotoko remain mathematically within reach of the top positions, but the pressure to deliver immediate improvement continues to mount. For now, management appears to be taking a cautious approach — weighing performance, fan sentiment, and long-term stability before making any definitive move regarding the technical direction of the club.
