Ghana international Antoine Semenyo is edging closer to a high-profile move to Manchester City, with the forward set to undergo a medical on Thursday ahead of a £65 million transfer.
The deal is expected to progress rapidly after Bournemouth’s Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night. Cherries head coach Andoni Iraola has confirmed Semenyo will feature in the match, while admitting it could be the winger’s final appearance for the club.
Everything has been agreed in principle for the 25-year-old to join the Premier League champions via a £65m release clause in his contract, which expires on Friday. Manchester City are the only club to have formally moved to activate the clause, despite strong interest from Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea earlier in the season.
Chelsea made an initial enquiry before opting against a formal approach, while Tottenham have since shifted focus to alternative targets.
The transfer is also set to deliver a financial boost to Bristol City, who are entitled to 20 per cent of the profit from Semenyo’s sale. The Championship side sold the Ghanaian to Bournemouth in January 2023 for around £10m, meaning they stand to receive a sizeable windfall if the move is completed.
At the Etihad Stadium, Semenyo is expected to provide depth and versatility to Pep Guardiola’s attacking options. City are understood to be keen on retaining both Savinho and Omar Marmoush, dismissing suggestions that their futures hinge on Semenyo’s arrival.
One of Bournemouth’s standout performers this season, Semenyo has also remained a key figure for the Black Stars. A move to Manchester City would mark a significant step forward in his career.
