Andre Ayew scores Africa’s first goal at 2022 FIFA World Cup —

Andre Ayew has become the first African player to score at the 2022 FIFA World Cup after he netted a consolation goal in the Black Stars‘ 3-2 loss to Portugal in a Group H game on Thursday.

The 32-year-old arrived in the box to connect home a low cross from Mohammed Kudus.

Cristiano Ronaldo had opened the scoring for Portugal from the spot after Mohammed Salisu fouled the former Real Madrid inside the box.

Morocco, Tunisia, Senegal, and Cameroon had all failed to score in their opening games.

Prior to this game, African representatives had tried 44 shots with 12 being on target.
