Ghana football legend Andre Morgan Ayew has reminisced about the Black Satellites’ historic victory at the 2009 FIFA U20 World Cup, while looking forward to future international success.
Ayew, Ghana’s most capped Black Stars player, first rose to prominence after leading the young side to glory in Egypt 16 years ago.
Appointed ambassador for the 2025 MILO U-13 Champions League, Ayew described the 2009 triumph as a moment that “brought the whole world to Ghana.”
“It’s very easy. We brought the world to Ghana. Yeah, that’s it, we brought the whole world to Ghana, and we hope that it’s going to happen again pretty soon, Insha Allah,” he said when asked about his fondest career memory.
The 2009 win saw Ghana beat Brazil 4–3 on penalties following a goalless draw, making them the first African nation to lift the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
The tournament aims to discover and develop the next generation of football stars in Ghana, with Ayew pledging to support and inspire participants.
