Ghanaian forward Andre Ayew remains hopeful that Le Havre can survive relegation as the French Ligue 1 season draws to a close.
The veteran forward reached a career milestone last weekend, making his 500th league appearance during Le Havre’s 2-1 loss to his boyhood club Olympique Marseille.
The defeat leaves Le Havre dangerously close to the drop zone with just one point clear of Saint-Etienne, who occupy the relegation play-off spot.
Le Havre’s fate now hinges on the final matchday, as they travel to face Strasbourg on Saturday, May 17.
A win for Ayew’s side, combined with a loss for FC Nantes, could seal their top-flight status for another season.
Despite the pressure, Ayew struck a defiant tone on social media: “Never give up. We are still in.”
The 35-year-old has made a notable impact at Le Havre since joining the club, contributing nine league goals over two seasons including four this campaign.
His current contract, however, expires at the end of the season, leaving questions about his future beyond this survival battle.
