Anderlecht coach Kompany explains why he played Majeed Ashimeru in the Belgian Cup

Majeed Ashimeru was supposed to miss the cup final, but he came on in the second half against KAA Gent.

The medical staff had given him the green light to play but his ankle eventually started to hurt when he kick the ball.

After the game Kompany said the KAA Gent players were tired and he wanted to gain control of the game that is why he brought on Majeed Ashimeru.

“He was a profile we could use in the second half. A number of Ghent players were tired. The more the game progressed, the more I thought we could gain control there,” said Kompany.

“If it had gone differently, it would have been the perfect decision, because it worked out with him. But Kana also came in very well. We knew we still had that option,” he added.

Midfielder Majeed Ashimeru was in tears after the game, KAA Gent defeated his team on penalties to win the Belgian Cup.
