Mortagbe, who has previously worked with the Football Association as a consultant, tells KickOffGhana.com he feels Ghana football needs new direction and he is confident he can provide that.
Mortagbe has spent the last year working as a Fifa marketing instructor. He also heads a new company that provides various football services for club sides.
He says while Ghana may have done well recently on the international scene, local football is in a desperately poor state and in need of fixing.
And while he acknowledges that Nyantekyie’s popularity may have soared over the last few years, he insists those who invest in football and work directly in it have major issues.
“If this was a nationwide vote then of course Nyantekyie has massive support because of the World Cup, the World Youth Cup win and the gains the Black Stars have made to win,” he says.
“But this will be decided by over 100 men who invest their money and time in the sport. For them the picture is not the same. I more than believe they will buy into my manifesto which will be fundamentally to give local football a massive life.”
Nyatekyie is odds-on favourite to win another term in office, but the declaration of interest means he has another challenger to contend with. King Faisal chief executive Vincent Odotei has already declared he will contest position.
