Ghana Women’s Premier League champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies began their 2026 WAFU B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers campaign with a 1-0 victory over defending champions ASEC Mimosas.
Gloria Adomako scored the decisive goal in the first half, securing all three points for the Nana Mma in their Group B opener.
ASEC Mimosas had an early opportunity to take control of the match when they were awarded a penalty in the sixth minute. However, the Ivorian side failed to convert from the spot, with Ampem Darkoa Ladies goalkeeper Rose Baah producing an important save to keep the score level.
Baah’s intervention gave her side an early lift as ASEC continued to look for a way through. The defending champions were unable to make their pressure count, while Ampem Darkoa Ladies gradually began to create openings of their own.
Zakaria Ajegipina and Nancy Amoh both threatened to break the deadlock, but neither player was able to beat the ASEC goalkeeper. Their efforts failed to find the back of the net as the two sides remained level.
Ampem Darkoa Ladies eventually made their pressure count in the 29th minute. Adomako rose to head home the opening goal and put the Ghanaian champions in front.
ASEC Mimosas were forced to respond after the interval, but Ampem Darkoa Ladies also had opportunities to extend their advantage. Loanee Milot Pokuaa came close to scoring a second goal for the Techiman-based side when she found space at close range, only for her effort to strike the upright.
That miss left the match finely balanced in the closing stages. ASEC continued to search for an equaliser, but Baah kept Ampem Darkoa Ladies ahead with a series of important saves.
The Ghanaian goalkeeper’s performance proved crucial as the Nana Mma protected their narrow lead and finished the match with the win. The result gives Ampem Darkoa Ladies three points from their first game, while ASEC Mimosas were left without a goal despite their early penalty opportunity and their attempts to recover after falling behind.
Ampem Darkoa Ladies will play AS Garde Nationale of Niger in their next match on Thursday, 27 August. Their second Group B fixture will provide another opportunity to build on a winning start to the WAFU B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers.
