Spokesman for Besiktas SK, Hüseyin Yücel has shed light on Ghana international Daniel Amartey’s attempt to prevent his transfer from the club during the summer window.
According to Yücel, Amartey went to great lengths to thwart negotiations, including escaping through “the back door” of the club’s facilities to avoid a transfer to Turkish lower-tier club Eyüpspor.
Amartey, who joined Besiktas on a free transfer from Leicester City last season, struggled with injuries and made only 12 starts in 18 Turkish Super Lig appearances.
“Amartey is a strange person. We made an agreement with a team from Saudi Arabia, but they did not get on the plane,” Yucel said.
“We agreed with Eyüpspor, he escaped through the back door of our facilities. He said, “I will go to Germany or England.” When he was told ‘the transfer window is closed’, he said ‘how will it close?’😳”
Amartey’s contract with Besiktas is set to expire in June 2026.
