Hearts of Oak legend Amankwa Mireku has jumped to the defense of embattled coach Chris Hughton after the Black Stars’ heavy defeat by the United States of America on Wednesday.
Ghana suffered a 4-0 defeat against the USA in an international friendly match played in Nashville. Giovanni Reyna’s brace, a Christian Pulisic penalty, and Folarin Balogun’s sublime finish gave the States the most famous victory against the Black Stars.
The Irish-born trainer has come under immense pressure, following the back-to-back defeats, having lost to Mexico.
“I have never agreed that it’s always the coach who needs to be blamed whenever a team isn’t performing well,” Mireku told Happy FM.
“Some players sometimes make the work of the coach very difficult; they add nothing to the team, which affects the general performance of the team.
The Black Stars will now shit their focus to the upcoming World Cup qualifiers scheduled for November against Madagascar and Comoros.
