CD Leganes vs UD Almería Preview 29/05/2022

214

This weekend features the final games of the La Liga 2 regular season and this upcoming clash between Leganes and 2nd placed Almeria is a very similar situation to the Eibar fixture where Almeria must win at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque in order to make absolutely sure of promotion.
However, Almeria face perhaps the tougher task as they make their way to mid-table Leganes for Sunday’s clash and the hosts head into this final day of the La Liga 2 season on the back of a resounding 3-0 victory away from home at Ponferradina last time out.

Results overall though for Leganes have been fairly inconsistent throughout this campaign and it’s no surprise to find them anchored in a mid-table position of 12th place on the La Liga 2 ladder after winning just three of their last 11 matches overall.
At home, Leganes have produced greater consistency though as the hosts have lost just twice in their last 14 games and have registered six wins during this period but Almeria will be aiming to do what their promotion rivals, Eibar, did on their last visit to Leganes and that is to pick up all three points.
Onto Almeria then and the visitors know that automatic promotion up to La Liga is in their own hands heading into this final day of the Spanish second tier season.
And having put together a solid looking eight-match unbeaten run, the visitors look in good shape to get over the line here.
Five wins within these eight games in the shape of victories over Ponferradina, Sporting Gijon, Burgos, Amorebieta and Real Sociedad B have helped maintain Almeria’s course for promotion and just one more win on Sunday would seal an excellent campaign for the visitors.
The bigger picture shows Almeria have slipped to just two defeats within their last 16 matches overall in La Liga 2.
While one loss in their last seven outings on the road suggest Almeria are just as adept in gaining results on their travels as well.
Perhaps the one obstacle in Almeria’s path though is the fact that they’ve lost their last two visits on the trot to the Estadio Municipal de Butarque, losing 2-1 on each occasion.
But with promotion now in their sights, Almeria will be determined to set the record straight here with all three points.
