Algeria’s head coach Farid Benstiti believes Saturday’s quarter-final showdown with Ghana will be tightly contested, describing it as a “50/50” encounter.
The North African side will face the Black Queens on July 19 at the Stade de Berkane, with both teams eyeing a spot in the semi-finals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). A win for Algeria would mark their first-ever appearance in the last four of the competition.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Benstiti said:”Football at the quarter-finals is 50/50,” Benstiti said at the pre-match conference.
“It is not a problem for us [winning one game]. We want to be more efficient against Ghana.
Algeria’s journey to the knockout stage has been far from smooth.
They managed just one win in the group phase, with their other two matches ending in goalless draws.
Despite this, the team secured second place in Group B behind Nigeria.
The coach stressed the need for improvement in front of goal.
“We hope to continue to play offensively and we will try to be more efficient. I hope that it will be a very great game.”
