Ghanaian defender Alexander Djiku has explained the reasons behind his move to Turkish giants Fenerbahçe in the summer.
The 29 year old highlighted the allure of the club’s ambitious sporting project. The prospect of joining a team aiming for high competitiveness with notable signings like Edin Dzeko, Dusan Tadic, Fred, and Dominik Livakovic played a pivotal role in his decision.
Fenerbahçe’s participation in a European Cup, leading their group in the Europa League Conference, added further appeal. Djiku, having previously experienced European competition with Strasbourg, expressed eagerness to relive that experience.
“With my advisor, we made this choice for several reasons. First of all, we were thrilled by the sporting project that was presented to us,” he told Foot Mercato.
“They explained to us that they wanted to build an ultra-competitive team by signing top recruits such as Edin Dzeko, Dusan Tadic, Fred and Dominik Livakovic, to name but a few.
“What’s more, the club was playing in a European Cup (group leader in the Europa League Conference), which was a key factor in my choice. I’d already played in one with Strasbourg and I wanted to experience that again in the short term,”
