Black Stars defender Alexander Djiku has expressed deep gratitude after playing a pivotal role in Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
The Spartak Moscow centre-back was instrumental throughout the qualifying campaign, scoring twice — including the crucial winner against rivals Mali and another in the emphatic victory over the Central African Republic. He also impressed in the final match against Comoros as Ghana sealed their place at the tournament.
“So proud and grateful. We’re going to the 2026 World Cup! Big thank you to everyone who’s been with us from day one. Ghana to the USA – we move together,” Djiku wrote on social media.
The Black Stars finished top of Group I with 25 points from 10 matches, bouncing back strongly after missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana joins Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, and Algeria as Africa’s representatives at the World Cup. The group stage draw will be held in Washington, D.C., on December 5, 2025.
