Egyptian giants Al Ahly have parted ways with head coach Jose Riveiro after just four months in charge.
The decision came following a 2-0 home defeat to Pyramids FC on Saturday, which left the Red Devils with just one win from their opening four Egyptian Premier League matches and sitting 12th in the table.
An emergency board meeting held on Sunday morning led to the mutual termination of Riveiro’s contract. Club president Mahmoud El Khatib and sports director Mohamed Youssef were among those present as the reports of both the technical team and management were reviewed before the decision was finalized.
Riveiro, who joined Al Ahly from Orlando Pirates on a two-year deal, also failed to guide the Cairo side past the group stage of the FIFA Club World Cup earlier this year.
The club’s hierarchy will now move quickly to appoint a new technical team to lead the reigning African champions for the rest of the season.
