Al Ahly’s FIFA Club World Cup journey ended in a thrilling 4-4 draw against FC Porto at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey in the early hours of Tuesday.
Despite scoring four goals and leading four times, the Egyptian giants couldn’t hold off Porto’s relentless attacks.
Wessam Abou Ali opened the scoring with a well-taken goal, and his penalty kick in the first half gave Al Ahly a 2-1 lead.
However, Porto’s brilliant solo effort from Rodrigo Mora leveled the score.The second half saw three goals in three minutes, with Abou Ali completing his hat-trick to put Al Ahly ahead 3-2.
Porto equalized again through Samu’s header before Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane’s stunning curling shot gave Al Ahly a 4-3 advantage.
Despite chances to seal the win, Al Ahly’s wastefulness was punished when Pepê’s long-range strike equalized for Porto in the 89th minute.
Both teams exited the competition, finishing behind Manchester City and Juventus in Group A.
Al Ahly’s inability to capitalize on their scoring opportunities ultimately led to their elimination.
