Players of the senior national team are expected to begin camping in Accra ahead of their World Cup qualifier in Kumasi on Sunday. Akunnor says he gets a feeling Ghanaians think qualification for 2010 is already done, but insists that sort of attitude could damage the chances of the team. “When I listen to people it is as if we have already qualified; that the games in the qualifying stage will be a mere procession which is very dangerous,” he told KickOffGhana.com. “Let us not get ahead of ourselves because we this will be very difficult.” Akunnor admits Ghanaians can expect to be favourites in a group comprising Benin, Mali and Sudan, but says the players must approach the games with a different attitude. “The players qualified for the World Cup because every game was so important in their minds. If they begin to believe what is being said, every game in the present qualifiers would not be, which is a huge problem. And regardless of what anybody says, we have been to one World Cup. We will be made to work hard for this one if we are to qualify.”
